The Chancel Choir |
|
Interpreting a wide variety of choral literature, the Chancel Choir is an
adult choir of volunteers that leads the 11am service of worship at The
Presbyterian Church. Interpreting choice examples of the choral art from
medieval chants to more contemporary fare, the Chancel Choir is an
essential presence in the life of the church. During each season, the
Chancel Choir sings hundreds of anthems and responses as well as more
extended works. Recent examples include John Tavener's Funeral
Ikos, Settings of Ein Feste Burg (A Mighty Fortress)
spanning five centuries and accompanied by period instruments, Giovanni
Pergolesi's Magnificat, a liturgical performance of Wolfgang
Amadeus Mozart's Mass in D minor, and Franz Josef Haydn's
Little Organ Mass.

The Chamber Singers is a choir of approximately sixteen voices that
specializes in rarely examined choral repertoire from the seventeenth and
eighteenth centuries as well as selected examples from the twentieth
century. In the past the group has performed works by such disparate
composers as Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Johann Heinichen, Hugo Distler and
Lloyd Pfautsch as well as occasional forays into the music of early
America. During the Lenten season of 2003, the Chamber Singers offered
Johann Sebastian Bach's Cantata #106 in a service of worship.

Cantate Omnes |
|
Loosely translated as "Sing, everyone!", Cantate Omnes is an
inter-generational choir of adults and high school students that often
leads the Sunday worship service at 9:15am. It is a choir that anyone can
join! No prior experience or ability to read music is required. Cantate
Omnes sings unison and two-part music that is usually written by
contemporary composers. Works from the Taize liturgy and the Iona Wild
Goose repertoire figure prominently in the choir's endeavors. The
addition of instrumentalists from within the congregation is a frequent
component of the choir's performances. There is no weekly rehearsal and
the choir begins at 8:15am on scheduled Sundays to prepare that day's
offerings. Cantate Omnes also leads the music for the Easter Vigil
service each year.

Bel Melodia Singers & Ringers |

It is never too early to be a church musician! Our youngest choristers
are the Bel Melodia singers and ringers. They range in age from
Kindergarten through second grade. These young ringers often begin on our
lightweight Suzuki tonechimes and learn many of the most basic musical
skills. They often appear with the Tower and Bel Canto choirs in worship.
