Fredrik Sixten Commission
James D. Hicks has recently commissioned Swedish composer and church musician, Fredrik Sixten to compose an original composition for pipe organ. The Variations for Organ and the Messa Misteriosa will receive their world premieres on the magnificent Mander/Skinner organ in the University Chapel at Princeton University on Saturday, March 6, 2010 at 5:00pm. The works will also be featured on an upcoming 2010 compact disc recording, produced by the Pro Organo label. The work is a set of Theme and Variations upon an original them, composed in a national, Swedish style. Fredrik Sixten is Director of Music at Harnosands Cathedral. Scandinavian Recording Project
James D. Hicks has recorded a 2-CD set of organ works from Scandinavian countries. Recorded at Cathedral in Linkoping, Sweden as well as Gustavus Adolphus Church in Sundsvall, Sweden the project includes two and one-half hours of works, spanning the nineteenth and twentieth centuries plus the above-mentioned contemporary compositions. Composers from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland and Finland will be represented. The recordings, released in May 2010, are available on the Pro Organo label.
